School’s in for sun safety at Peachester

Play time at Peachester State School is about to get a whole lot safer.

A new shade shelter will soon be constructed above the school’s playground equipment thanks to Sunshine Coast Council. Division 1 Councillor Anna Grosskreutz said the $30,000 project would provide a major sun safety boost for students.

"Council recently provided Peachester state school with play equipment because the school community is small and unable to raise the funds necessary to purchase this type of equipment," she said.

"To ensure that children using their new equipment are sun safe I am providing $30,000 of divisional funding for the construction of a shade structure above the school’s new play area."

Peachester state school Parents and Citizens President, Louise Lewis said the new shade structure would be a very welcome addition.

"This is a fantastic donation from Sunshine Coast Council and on behalf of everyone at Peachester state school I thank Cr Anna Grosskreutz very much for enabling us to protect our students," she said.

"Sun safety is extremely important for children and this shade structure will ensure that our students are sheltered when they’re outside enjoying their new playground equipment.

"The structure itself will be a 10m by 10m solid steel structure that will cover the playground and we’re hopeful it will be constructed in the coming weeks."
