Safer, smoother and far more weather resistant – those are among the improvements delivered to Doonan Bridge Road East by Sunshine Coast Council.
Sealing and widening works were recently completed on a 780m section of the road that extends west from Perigian Springs Drive. Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said the project was of vital importance to residents and businesses in Doonan, Verrierdale and Peregian Springs.
“Doonan Bridge Road East is a heavily used piece of infrastructure and this 780m section that was previously unsealed was costing council a lot of money to regularly repair and maintain,” he said.
“Of even more concern was that local residents were experiencing many difficulties commuting on this road, especially during and after periods of rain when it would often flood and rutting and potholes made driving difficult and dangerous.
“So I worked closely with council to prioritise the sealing and widening of this unsealed stretch of road and the end result is a safer more durable and functional road for commuters.”
Verrierdale resident and business owner Dominique Massoni said the project had already made a positive impact on the local community.
“This road was a nightmare to travel on in the past,” he said.
“When it was dry it was dusty and dirty and when we had heavy rain it was often flooded or boggy and made it very difficult and dangerous for myself and many other locals who rely on this road to get from home to our businesses or workplaces.
“So to now have this smooth, safe, sealed road to travel on is a huge relief and I’m sure I speak for all locals in thanking Cr Robinson and council for making this happen.”
