Come along to the Ground Zero Gallery at 6pm on Thursday 30 June for a one-night only showcase of local arts projects, combining music, exhibitions and displays to both entertain and inform.
Hosted by Sunshine Coast Council, the night will highlight the funding possibilities and successes of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Ground Zero Gallery is located at 80 Howard Street, Nambour.
Videographer James Muller is just one artist showing his work at the RADF Showcase. He collaborated with three other artists to create Ship of Fools, a project funded by RADF.
"For a lot of artists on the Coast, RADF funding helps get their projects up and going," Mr Muller said.
"We wouldn’t have been able to build our Ship of Fools without it."
The 100 foot replica ship, made from bamboo, piccabeen palm and paperbark, was a highlight of the recent Floating Land green art event at Boreen Point.
Mr Muller said the ship became a real community project.
"Everyday local sailors from Boreen Point came to camp to help out and stop for a chat," Mr Muller said.
"We were even given a handwoven artefact made by a sailor who sailed ships like ours. He has since passed away, but handed the piece of history onto his friend who gave it to us to use on the ship."
Each night the ship’s sails would light up with surreal projections of a woman swimming beneath the surface of the water.
"I filmed my partner underwater in Boolumba Creek. We nearly got hypothermia," Mr Muller said.
"I could film for half an hour before I’d start shaking and couldn’t hold the camera steady."
Mr Muller will be joined by the All Star Big Band featuring Laura Mitchell, Jazzerati, The Story Project, and The Matchbox Show by Michael Ciavarella with MC Mary Eggleston as her character Green June.
