Skip bins help community clean up

The ‘freak’ rain event that lashed the Sunshine Coast on 22 March left a lot of mess but locals weren’t left high and dry when it came to the clean up.

Sunshine Coast Council supplied emergency skip bins at more than 80 locations, enabling residents to dispose of their flood damaged items.

Local Disaster Coordinator Alan Rogers said the bins would be removed over the coming days before the easter weekend.

"These skip bins were put in place at the worst affected areas around the Sunshine Coast to help locals who were affected by the rain and flooding to clean up," he said.

"The bins have been in place for the past 10 days since this emergency and they’ll all be removed over the next 48 hours or so."

Locals who experienced personal hardship due to the recent flooding can still seek assistance through the Department of Communities by calling 1800 173349.

Residents who require emergency assistance are urged to call the SES on 132500.
