Noosa Regional Gallery Director Christine Ballinger has been awarded the Professional Business Woman Award in the annual awards presented by the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network.

Christine was honoured with her award at the Sunshine Coast Business Women of the Year event, held at the Novotel Twin Waters Resort on Tuesday night.

“Council is delighted to have Christine’s vast experience and talent recognised in this way,” said Lisbet Dean, Regional Director of Community Services.

On receiving the award, Christine said it was unusual for someone from the arts to receive this type of award.

“These awards usually go to people from the more traditional corporate fields like banking or corporate management roles, which makes it all the more special to me” Christine said.

After completing tertiary studies in mathematics, science and education, Christine initially went on to become a teacher at Nambour and Burnside High Schools before following her heart into the visual arts and in particular paper making.

Christine spent 20 successful years running her own visual art practice - exhibiting, developing and teaching new techniques in paper making before turning her experience to curating.

Christine has worked as the art director for the Noosa Regional Gallery for the past two years.
