Stretch your mind and unlock opportunities at your library

Sunshine Coast Council has launched two promotional videos to help promote the wide variety of services available for free at libraries across the Coast.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said both library members and non-members may not be aware of the diverse range of collections, services including eResources and activities that are available to them for free – and the videos are a great way to find out what’s on offer.

“The two new short promotional videos promote the array of services available” Cr McKay said.

“One of the best things is for many of us with busy lives, some of those resources can be borrowed without even a visit to the library – almost like having a library available to you 24 hours a day, from your own home.”

Cr McKay said that most Sunshine Coast residents are only ever 15 minutes away from their local library and once they have become a member they can easily access a wide range of digital material from wherever they are, around the world.

“Library members can access eBooks for free any time of the day or night. There’s literally thousands of eBooks to choose from including great fiction and non-fiction,” Cr McKay said.

“With the popularity of tablets, members can access their favourite magazines or pick up a great read from the eBook collection 24 hours, seven days a week.

“Music lovers also don’t miss out as they can access free music streaming and track downloads.”

Cr McKay said Council is committed to ensuring libraries are vibrant and welcoming community spaces where people choose to be.

“People can access free Wi Fi at the library branch, test drive new technology, discover their family history, learn new skills, attend author talks and much more,” Cr McKay said.

“I would encourage people to subscribe online to receive our free eNewsletter to find out what events are coming near you.”
