Time is running out for nation-wide artists to enter some of the 2015 Sunshine Coast Art Prize categories, offering combined prizes across all awards in excess of $125,000.

Now in its tenth year, the Sunshine Coast Art Prize has achieved national acclaim for its annual representation of contemporary Australian art and offers opportunities within painting, new media (including animation, videography, street art and more), photography, public art, environmental art, sculpture and more.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Sunshine Coast Art Prize 10th Anniversary, presented by Sunshine Coast Council, showcases the best local art alongside some of the nation’s most exciting new contemporary visual artists.

“To celebrate the 10th Anniversary I am pleased to announce this year’s Art Prize will be in partnership with key regional visual art organisations and awards.” Cr McKay said.

“Awards including the Eumundi Sculpture Prize led by Eumundi Foundation, Sculpture On The Edge led by Arts Connect Inc, the Kenilworth Painting Prize and Kenilworth Trophy Art Competition both led by Kenilworth Arts Council, the Friends of Caloundra Regional Gallery Local Artists - Local Content Art Prize, The Holmes Art Prize, Suncoast Clayworkers Spring Fever and more will join forces for a region-wide celebration of visual arts of the greatest quality and diversity.”

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the 2015 Sunshine Coast Art Prize has now become one of the richest art prizes in Australia attracting work from some of the best contemporary and emerging artists our nation has to offer.

“Council is sponsoring four categories opening nationally in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Art Prize including a Two-Dimensional (2D) Award, New Media Award, Sunshine Coast Landscape and Wildlife Photography Prize and the Sunshine Coast Inaugural Environmental Art Award.

“In 2015 these categories are open to any Australian resident.

“The Sunshine Coast Art Prize 2015 award provides a distinguished contribution to the national art calendar and culminates in an exhibition of the 40 finalists at Caloundra Regional Gallery from August 20 to October 11.”
