Sunshine Coast Council’s Corporate Services Director Ray Turner has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer while the organisation recruits a new CEO. Mr Turner will take on the role for three months from April 24, or until the position is filled.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said Davidson Executive had been appointed to undertake the CEO recruitment process, with print and online advertising expected to start this weekend (Apr 18).

“Council is seeking a visionary CEO to lead the organisation at one of the most exciting times in Sunshine Coast’s history,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“We are focused on shaping our future through good planning and a commitment to ‘thinking outside the square’, which are essential to growing our economy, meeting the needs of a rapidly expanding population and protecting our lifestyle and environment.

“Sunshine Coast is striving to become Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green and diverse - and the new CEO will be responsible for driving council’s agenda towards achieving that goal.”

Current CEO John Knaggs departs the organisation on April 23 to take up a position with SunCentral Maroochydore Pty Ltd, a separate company established by the Council to oversee the development, planning and delivery of the Maroochydore City Centre – Australia’s only greenfield CBD at this time.

Mr Knaggs has been the Sunshine Coast Council Chief Executive Officer since 2008. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the former Maroochy Shire Council since 2004.
