The Sunshine Coast has over 690 kilometres of gravel roads – many through the Hinterland – providing vital links for commuters, personal and business users.
At a special budget meeting recently Sunshine Coast Council endorsed a 10-year $25 million capital works program which will guide the additional sealing and replacement of gravel on existing gravel roads over the next decade.
In the 2011/12 financial year council expects to spend $2 million turning high priority gravel roads into sealed roads and $1 million on the replacement and upgrade of gravel on the existing unsealed network.
On top of this council is expected to spend in excess of $6 million replacing timber bridges throughout the hinterland to maintain and enhance the road network.
This is good news for business, individuals and tourists who frequently access and enjoy the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
