ImageCouncil’s Sunshine Coast Social Strategy has been recognised as an ABA100 Winner of the Australian Business Award for Community Contribution in 2016.

Now in its 11th year, the Australian Business Awards are a comprehensive national awards program recognising excellence in organisations across all industries and sectors via an established set of business and product award categories.

In acknowledging the region’s success at taking out the 2016 Community Contribution category at The Australian Business Awards, Mayor Mark Jamieson said the Sunshine Coast Social Strategy ensured our community continued to thrive and enjoy a lifestyle that sets us apart.

“This important strategy, endorsed by council in 2015, provides a long-term social direction that builds on the region’s positive social attributes,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“It provides us with a clear direction to ensure our residents feel included, are treated with respect and opportunities are available to all.

“By working alongside a range of government agencies and organisations, we will build an even stronger Sunshine Coast community, living in what we hope will be Australia’s most sustainable region – vibrant, green, diverse.

“Sunshine Coast Council is, and will continue to be, focussed on serving the community and shaping our region’s future.”

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said it was an honour for the Sunshine Coast Social Strategy to be acknowledged on a national level as a leader in its field against both the private and public sectors.

“We have benchmarked the Social Strategy against other comparable councils and we have discovered that as an integrated approach to social policy it is quite unique,” Cr McKay said.

“We acknowledge that while strong local government leadership on social issues is important, the partnerships we continue to build with our community partners are a key part of how we move towards shaping communities together.”
