Sunshine Coasters are being asked to put out the welcome map for the Channel 9 Today Show crew when they descend on the coast to broadcast the popular breakfast television program from Moffat Beach on Thursday (October 1).

Presenters Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson and Richard Wilkins and the rest of Today Show crew will fly into Sunshine Coast Airport tomorrow (Wednesday, September 30) and discover for themselves why the region is breaking tourism records.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the council had partnered with Sunshine Coast Airport, Sunshine Coast Destination Limited and Tourism and Events Queensland to bring the Today Show to the Sunshine Coast.

“Enticing the Today Show to include the Sunshine Coast in their “We Love Australia” trip is a real coup and the short and long-term benefits this coverage will provide cannot be underestimated,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“It’s a great chance to promote a range of our business and tourism opportunities.

“The program has a daily audience of 350,000 people and I understand up to four million viewers watch at least five minutes of the show each week.

“They will be given a close-up of our beautiful hinterland and beaches and a taste of our spectacular food culture.

“Acclaimed Spicers Clovely executive chef Cameron Matthews will cook up a seafood barbeque breakfast using fresh produce from Mooloolaba’s seafood markets and hinterland produce and Karl will milk cows from Maleny Dairies.

“There’ll be body art and yoga demonstrations to highlight  the Australian Body Art Festival and Wanderlust events being held on the Sunshine Coast next month and the region’s natural beauty and activities will be highlighted - enjoying the Glasshouse Mountains, surfing and paddle boarding, swimming with the whales and trekking in our National Parks.

“We are very confident that, like so many visitors, they will have a fantastic experience and will want to come back for more.

“With the announcements by Jetstar this week to expand services into Sunshine Coast Airport, and with Qantas commencing direct flights from December, there has never been a better and easier time to visit the Sunshine Coast.

“And with national exposure from the Today program, we can expect a tremendous finish to the year for tourism.”

Mayor Jamieson will join Olympian Lisa Curry and Today Show host Lisa Wilkinson on “The Grill” to discuss all things happening on the Sunshine Coast including why it’s becoming the regional events capital of Australia and such a great place to live, work and play.

“With so many game-changing projects coming off the drawing board and rising from the ground, combined with our incredible natural beauty and great lifestyle, the Sunshine Coast is taking centre stage,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Events Chair Bill Darby said the visit from the Today Show highlighted the national interest in our beautiful part of the world.

“Thousands across Australia will see our destination for the first time on TV and will no doubt want to come and experience the Sunshine Coast for themselves,” Mr Darby said.

You can join the live outdoor broadcast at Bryce St, Moffat Beach from 5.30am.

Fans who attend the outside broadcast will also have the chance to be part of Dickie’s Double Dip Cash Giveaway.
