Sunshine Coast Council invites families to join thousands of other children across Australia to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime at 11am on Wednesday 22 May 2013 at various library locations across the Coast.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Sunshine Coast Libraries will join in National Simultaneous Storytime to celebrate and acknowledge the vital work being done in libraries, schools and communities around Australia.
“The Wrong Book will be read at exactly the same time at libraries, schools, bookshops and child care centres throughout Australia,” she said.
“In 2012 over 380,000 children at over 2,000 locations across Australia took part in National Simultaneous Storytime reading the book The Very Cranky Bear.
“This colourful, vibrant and fun event is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading and literacy as well as the importance of Australia's book industry and the important role libraries play in the community.
“The Wrong Book, written by award-winning author Nick Bland, is a beautifully illustrated picture book that is full of humour.
“Children are encouraged to come dressed up in their favourite book character and head to one of the local library branches to hear about the storybook character Nicholas Ickle who is trying to tell a story but keeps getting interrupted by characters from others books.”
