Three days left—don’t miss out on a third bin

Residents that sign up for council’s garden waste wheelie bin service in July stand the best chance of actually receiving the service when it hits the streets in November.

Council is offering residents in the former Maroochy Shire a green waste service for the first time and is encouraging residents who want the service to sign up in July.

Manager of waste and resources management Wayne Schafer said that the reason we want residents to sign up early is so we know what areas we need to service.

“Knowing which areas we need to cover is a really important step in finalising service routes and where the trucks actually go,” Mr Schafer said.

“The contractor will look at where the 3000 people who have already signed up live, before setting the most viable routes.

“If anyone who wants the service hasn’t yet signed up, I’d really encourage them to visit council’s website www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au or call customer service on 5475 7272 to get in before 1 August.

“Using a wheelie bin service to get rid of green waste is efficient and easy and provides an environmentally friendly alternative to home composting for residents who don’t have the time.

“The service costs $72 per year and residents signing up online in July will go in the draw to win a free service.

“We’ll still accept applications after 1 August, but we can’t ensure that the contract will cover additional areas."
