Leaving the car at home and travelling by bike is great for your health and great for the environment.
Sunshine Coast students are urged to adopt a two-wheeled mode of transport on March 19 for National Ride2School Day.
Sunshine Coast Council Transport Strategy Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said schools could now register to take part in the event.
“Riding a bicycle is a healthy, sustainable alternative to travelling by car and a fun way to get to school and reduce traffic in school zones,” he said.
“National Ride2School Day aligns with the aims of council’s TravelSmart program that encourages people to leave their cars at home and consider other travel options like walking, cycling or riding a scooter.”
National Ride2School Day is Australia’s largest celebration of active travel to school, involving thousands of school kids each year.
Schools within the Sunshine Coast Council region that register their participation before March 19 will be eligible to win a number of prizes, including:
1st Prize - $500 voucher at a bike shop of your choice
2nd Prize - $200 voucher at a bike shop of your choice
3rd Prize - $100 voucher at a bike shop of your choice
