A section of trees in Cliff Hargreaves Park near Currimundi Lake continues to be a target for vandalism.

Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said a second round of repair works had been carried out by council to revegetate the area where 15 trees were damaged and removed in May.

“This is senseless damage that requires ratepayer money to fix and the fact that it has happened for a second time at this same spot is a disgrace to those who did it,” Cr Cox said.

“I’d like to remind whoever carried out this act of vandalism that the maximum penalty can be up to $93,500 for this type of offence along with the cost to council to repair the damage."

Cr Cox said the damaged area had again been replanted with native trees.

“The newly planted trees that were put in earlier this year were ripped out so this time we’ve planted larger trees that will hopefully be left alone,” he said.

“Council door knocked nearby residents earlier this year to see if anyone witnessed this act of vandalism and I’d appeal to people living in this area to keep an eye and an ear out, particularly at night which is when it appears this damage was done.”
