Two community members needed for the Maleny Community Precinct Advisory group

Sunshine Coast Council is calling for interested Range residents to nominate for the Maleny Community Precinct Advisory Group to help ensure the precinct develops in line with the community’s vision.

Sunshine Coast Community Policy and Programs portfolio holder and division five councillor Jenny McKay said the advisory group will provide an important link between council and the community.

“The group will provide valuable guidance to ensure the precinct is developed as a place for the whole community to enjoy,” Cr McKay said.

“Council is looking to fill two positions. We are seeking nominations from Range residents to find an independent, skilled and experienced chairperson who can give a three-year commitment to the advisory group.

We are also looking for a second independent local representative with vision, a commitment to the local community and appropriate experience.”

The advisory group responsibilities will include:

  • facilitating communications and developing positive working relations between community groups on the precinct
  • evaluating collaborative solutions to issues and development challenges
  • providing advice on lease boundaries and location of trails
  • providing a forum for disputes settlement and provide advice to council on progress of development of the precinct.

Cr McKay said she is very keen to see local community members represented on the advisory group.

“Along with the community members, the advisory group will include representatives from council, Barung Landcare, Maleny District Green Hills Fund, Maleny Golf Club, Friends of Pattemore House and the Maleny District Sport and Recreation Club,” Cr McKay said.

“We want to hear from independent people with previous board experience and professional skills which will further compliment the advisory group expertise.”

“I invite local residents with an interest in the precinct to nominate.”

Nominations close on Saturday 30 October with the advisory group starting formal operations early in 2011.

To nominate please forward a copy of your resume and a letter explaining why you wish to sit on the advisory group to Project Support Officer, Partnerships and Engagement (ED14)
