unearthed treasures exhibition, caloundra regional gallery

Hidden treasures, paintings, sculptures, hand carved furniture, textiles and even an Antiques Roadshow inspired event will all feature as part of the newest exhibition at Caloundra Regional Gallery.

After calling out to local residents over recent months, the regional gallery has curated the Unearthed Treasures exhibition in partnership with more than 40 local residents who have kindly offered to share their collections and the fascinating stories behind them.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the exhibition was different from anything previously shown at the gallery.

“A huge thank-you goes to our local residents who have been kind enough to share their private collections with the community,” Cr Dwyer said.

“With more than 80 pieces in the exhibition, including objects from India, Papua New Guinea, Persia and Peru, plus works by Charles Blackman and a personalised painted bible from Pro Hart, there is something for everyone.

“I recommend you allow yourself plenty of time to explore each and every story behind the unique items.”

Inspired by the hidden treasures uncovered during the development of this exhibition, council has organised a Collectables Valuation Roadshow on Saturday, December 5.

“The roadshow is your chance to bring along an item or two to have valued by Warren Joel, one of Australia’s most experienced and sought after valuers,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Who knows, you might just unearth a valuable treasure of your own.”

In conjunction with the exhibition and roadshow on Saturday, December 5, the gallery will flow out into Caloundra’s Felicity Park for a day of family fun from 9.30am.

Kids of all ages are invited to come along and create their own special treasure or keepsake as Art Attack takes to the park. You can also search for hidden treasures amongst the Suitcase Rummage market from 10am.

Visit council’s gallery website for more details.

Don’t miss your chance to see this unique exhibition at the Caloundra Regional Gallery until Sunday, January 17, 2016.

Owned and operated by Sunshine Coast Council, Caloundra Regional Gallery is located at 22 Omrah Avenue and is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
