Sunshine Coast Council has made the decision to hold the Sound Support disaster relief concert indoors due to the forecast of showers on Sunday which have the potential to create unsafe and unpleasant conditions.
Come rain, hail or shine, the concert will now be held at The Events Centre, Caloundra instead of the Kings Beach Amphitheatre. The event day – Sunday 15 May 2011– will remain the same, however the time will change to 1.30pm to 8pm.
Please note, due to limited seating at the indoor venue, advance concert ticket sales are nearing capacity.
All profits raised from the one-off Sound Support concert will go directly to the Premier’s Disaster Relief Fund which will be disbursed to the people affected by the natural disasters in Queensland from December 2010 to February 2011.
Mayor Bob Abbot said safety and enjoyment for the community and performers was paramount and this was why the decision was made to hold the Sound Support concert indoors.
“We have acted quickly to secure this alternative indoor venue so the community and performers uniting together for this great cause can do so in a safe, fun, family friendly environment,” he said.
Co-ordinated by council in conjunction with local community members, organisations and businesses, Sound Support provides an exciting platform for local bands including The Floating Bridges, Band of Frequencies and Bob Abbot & The Fabulous Green Machine to perform with top national acts, John Butler Trio and Kate Miller-Heidke.
