The walk from the Caloundra Transit Centre to Lamkin Lane will be a real visual treat thanks to an Australian Government funding grant to create a series of public artworks.
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said Sunshine Coast Council was successful in obtaining an Australian Government grant to run a public art and graffiti management project at Caloundra.
“The Drawn Together project is being facilitated by a professional team from The Old Ambulance Station Nambour who will run a program of art workshops for young people,” Cr Dwyer said.
“The art activities will provide a visual creative link from the Caloundra Transit Centre to Lamkin Lane.
“The Drawn Together program engages with young people of Caloundra and gives them opportunities to develop their skills in illustration in a positive way.
“There will be a range of creative and mentoring opportunities for the young participants to get involved in legal street art processes and community events and activities.
“There will be a community celebration as part of the Caloundra Fringe Festival on September 27 at the conclusion of the artworks.”
The Old Ambulance Station Nambour Chair, Michael Doneman said a team of professional artists and arts workers had been engaged to deliver the Drawn Together program on behalf of Sunshine Coast Council.
“Our project manager and artist facilitators all have years of experience delivering creative activities for young people,” Mr Doneman said.
“The program has started in Caloundra and includes a range of creative and, educational initiatives for young people.”
Old Ambulance Station, Nambour Project Coordinator John Waldron said young people would learn street art techniques as well as a range of traditional art techniques during the Caloundra Drawn Together project.
“The young participants will assist in designing the series of striking artworks that will provide a visual creative link from the Caloundra Transit Centre to Lamkin Lane.”
