Voting now open for your new youth library card design
  • Monday 24 January 2011

Have your say on the design for the Coast’s first library card designed just for young people.

The designs of eight talented young artists have been shortlisted in the DesignAcard competition being run by Sunshine Coast Libraries.

Running since November 2010, the competition has received 114 entries from local artists aged 13 to 25 across the region to feature on new youth library membership cards from March.

Manager, Learning Communities, Ross Duncan said Sunshine Coast Libraries created the DesignAcard competition to showcase the wealth of talent in the young adult community and to encourage more young people to join as members.

“After the challenge of narrowing down the outstanding field of entries from talented young locals to eight, it is now over to the Sunshine Coast community to vote for your favourite designs and decide the two final winners,” he said.

“It’s been wonderful to see the amazing talent possessed by young people on the Sunshine Coast.

“We can’t wait to see which designs the community chooses as their new library cards.”

A panel of judges, including local award winning author/Illustrator Peter Carnavas and graphic designer, Jo Edgar-Baker from idprint, shortlisted the eight entries on Friday 21 January.

Voting opened today (Monday 24 January) and will close at 10am Monday 7 February. The new library cards featuring the two winning designs will be released in March 2011.

Mr Duncan said Sunshine Coast Libraries already have more than 17,000 young adult members, and were keen to attract more young adults to enjoy the diverse products and services available.

“Libraries are more than a place to go and borrow books. They also feature free internet access, online interactive gaming and many other activities for young adults, offering many opportunities to connect with each other,” he said.
