Whales on site to keep hospital carbon footprint down

Mayor Mark Jamieson has congratulated Sunshine Coast company Whale Resource & Recovery in securing a contract with Lend Lease for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) site.

“This is the second major contract to be announced for a local company at the SCUH site, following Shadforth’s major win, and we expect more local businesses to be successful in their tendering as time goes on,” he said.

“Whale Resource & Recovery will supply a number of bins for removing industrial waste for recycling during construction of the hospital.

“Recycling the industrial waste, rather than dumping it at landfill sites means a reduction in the hospital’s carbon footprint.

“The company registered through the ICN Gateway and attended all the workshops offered by Sunshine Coast Council which assisted their application.

“Ultimately, it took five months to win the contract, so getting there can be a lengthy process, but I advise those businesses which have already registered with ICN, and those which still intend to, that patience has its rewards.”

Work packages at SCUH can be accessed via the ICN link. Closing dates for the majority of packages is August 31. Registering at ICN also qualifies businesses to tender for contracts on other sites including State Government sites.
