  • Tuesday 10 July 2012

Sunshine Coast Council and Maritime Safety Queensland have completed the cleanup of an oil spill that was detected at Wurtulla beach earlier today.

Council officers and MSQ staff carried out a comprehensive cleanup by hand of the foreshore area between beach access 245 and Currimundi Lake. About half a bucket of heavy fuel oil was recovered.

Offshore inspections by Maritime Safety Queensland have found no further oil in the area. There were no reported incidents of harm to wildlife as a result of the spill.

Council will undertake inspections of the spill site tomorrow and will activate cleanup crews again if required.
