Your chance to secure one of Australia’s best new artworks
  • Thursday 02 October 2014

Twenty-nine contemporary Australian artworks from the 2014 Sunshine Coast Art Prize will go under the hammer at Caloundra Regional Gallery from 2pm on Sunday, October 26.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Sunshine Coast Art Prize is produced by Sunshine Coast Council to encourage artistic excellence and to bring quality artwork to a regional audience.

“The Art Prize Auction provides a unique and exciting opportunity for art enthusiasts, interior designers, art collectors, and those wishing to invest in art to obtain contemporary Australian artworks,” Cr McKay said.

Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said there are 29 outstanding two-dimensional artworks from local and national artists that will be open to bids.

“Amongst the two-dimensional works, you will find paintings, drawings, photography and digital prints and whether you are looking for abstract or portraits - there is not only something for everyone but also the opportunity to purchase an investment piece for your home or business,” Cr Dwyer said.

“Works vary in size and for those who acquire large-scale artworks, International Art Services will be on hand to arrange freight from the gallery to your door.

“If you are interested in art, even if you don’t want to purchase, come along and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

The auction will be preceded by a ticketed Garden Party lunch ($45pp for a two course meal and complimentary drink on arrival) and free entertainment in the park for everyone to enjoy including jazz and world music from Gypsy Loco.

Entry to the Art Prize Auction is free and open to the whole community.

Final registrations and artwork viewing will be available until 1.30pm on October 26. For bookings and full details about the Sunshine Coast Art Prize visit Council’s gallery website -

Residents and visitors can also get involved by voting in the People’s Choice award for their favourite artwork. The artist who garners the most votes will be rewarded with a prize of $2,500, sponsored by the Friends Caloundra Regional Gallery Inc.

Caloundra Regional Gallery is owned and operated by Sunshine Coast Council. Located at 22 Omrah Avenue, the Gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
